3-D Secure takes two settings, and both are yours. The first belongs to your Clover account, so you turn it on from your Clover Dashboard. The second belongs to your store, in your WeeConnectPay payment settings. A payment is verified only when both are on, and turning on one without the other is the usual reason a merchant sees no verification at all. If you are not sure what 3-D Secure does first, read 3-D Secure: what it is and what your customers see.
Step 1. Turn it on in your Clover Dashboard
- Sign in to your Clover Dashboard.
- Open the settings for your account's online payments, where the security and fraud controls for card-not-present payments live.
- Turn 3-D Secure on and save.
The exact menu names on the Clover Dashboard belong to Clover, so Clover's own help center and Clover support are the authority on where the setting sits for your account and your region. What does not change is everything else in this article: the setting lives on the Clover side, you own it, and it takes effect on payments made after you save it.
Step 2. Turn it on in your store
On a WooCommerce store, go to WooCommerce → Settings → Payments → WeeConnectPay and stay on the Payments tab. Turn on the toggle named 3-D Secure, described as "Add liability-shift authentication to card payments. Requires 3-D Secure to be enabled on your Clover merchant account. When on, customers will also fill in their cardholder name and email or phone number in the payment form, as required by the card networks." It is off until you turn it on.
The toggle saves on its own and shows a Saved marker. There is no separate save button on this page.
Nothing needs to be reinstalled, updated, or re-synced for either setting to reach your payments.
If your store runs on a platform other than WooCommerce, email support@weeconnectpay.com before you turn on the Clover setting, with your store address and your Clover merchant name. We will tell you whether your checkout can run the verification step today.
What changes once it is on
Both settings have to be on. With the Clover setting on and the store setting off, your payments are taken the way they always were and nothing is verified. With both on, every online card payment that store sends through WeeConnectPay goes through 3-D Secure, with no per-order, per-customer, or per-amount exception to switch off.
Your checkout collects a little more. With 3-D Secure on, Visa requires that customers also provide their cardholder name and email or phone number during checkout, so the payment form starts collecting those through Clover.
Beyond that, your customers mostly see nothing. The card issuer decides for each payment whether to confirm the cardholder in the background or to show one short verification step. Both are normal.
Verified payments use the standard tax behavior. A payment that runs through 3-D Secure is not eligible for the Full attribution tax forwarding mode, so it reports taxes the way Automatic does: a multi-rate cart such as TPS plus TVQ arrives in Clover as one bunched tax line rather than a named line per rate. Nothing is lost in your store's own tax records. How WeeConnectPay reports your taxes to Clover covers the modes.
The Clover setting belongs to one Clover merchant account. If you run more than one Clover merchant account, each one carries its own 3-D Secure setting, so turn it on for each account you want covered.
How to confirm it is working
Place a small real payment on your own store, then open Transactions on your WeeConnectPay dashboard.
A payment that went through 3-D Secure carries a small shield marker. Pointing at the shield opens a 3D Secure panel showing a Validation line (for example Authenticated) and a Liability line (for example Liability shifted to issuer). That panel is the confirmation that the payment was verified.
If your test payment shows no shield, 3-D Secure did not run for it. Start with the store setting, because it stays off until someone turns it on: check that 3-D Secure is on in the Payments tab of WooCommerce → Settings → Payments → WeeConnectPay. Then check that you saved the Clover setting on the same Clover merchant account your store is connected to. If both are on and there is still no shield, email support@weeconnectpay.com with the order number and the time of the attempt and we will trace what was sent for that payment.
Turning it back off
Both settings work in both directions. Turning the store setting off stops verification for that store and leaves your Clover account setting alone, which is the quickest way back if you want to pause. Turning the Clover setting off stops verification for every store on that Clover merchant account. Either way, payments taken after that point are processed without verification, and payments already taken keep the verification result they were recorded with.
