Every WooCommerce tax setup works. WooCommerce is the calculation engine, and WeeConnectPay charges the total WooCommerce produced, so your customer always pays the right amount no matter how your tax settings are arranged.
What varies between setups is how much naming detail Clover can show on top of that amount. Some setups let Clover record the tax under your rate's own name; others have Clover record the tax as an amount. Both are correct, and both keep the full breakdown in WooCommerce where your tax reports come from.
Setups where Clover can name each rate
These setups pair cleanly with a Clover rate, so once the rate is linked, Clover reporting can show it by name.
| Your WooCommerce setup | How it reports |
|---|---|
| Standard percentage rates | The everyday case. Each rate links to a Clover rate at exactly the same percentage and reports by name. |
| Prices entered including tax | WooCommerce works the tax out of the price before the total is built, so the amount and the linking both behave exactly as they do with tax added on top. |
| Rounding at subtotal | Amounts are exact. On carts where the rounding lands differently from Clover's own calculation, Clover records the exact amount and keeps the rate name off that particular payment. |
| Rate priorities and several tax classes | Each rate stands on its own and links independently, so a store with reduced-rate or zero-rate classes links each one separately. |
| Several rates on one order, such as TPS and TVQ | Each rate links independently. Having Clover name both of them on the same payment is what the Each rate by name reporting choice does, on the Charge at checkout or Order and charge transaction modes. |
Setups where Clover records the amount
These setups charge exactly the right tax, and Clover records that tax as an amount rather than under a rate name. The plugin puts it in one sentence: "Compound rates and rates from automated tax services (WooCommerce Tax, Avalara, TaxJar) stay unlinked. Amounts are still right, Clover just will not name those rates. Flat-fee Clover rates cannot be linked."
Compound rates. A compound rate is calculated on top of another tax, which is a shape Clover's own rates do not use. WooCommerce does the compounding and the charged amount is exact. Your dashboard states the position directly: "Compound rates keep working for charging. They are never used for item tax association, which is normal, not a fault."
Automated tax services, such as WooCommerce Tax, Avalara, and TaxJar. These build rates on the fly per address, so there is no fixed percentage to pair with a Clover rate. The tax they calculate is charged exactly and reported to Clover as an amount.
Flat-fee rates on Clover. A Clover rate can be a fixed fee in cents rather than a percentage. Those pair with nothing on the WooCommerce side, and your dashboard's rate coverage block says so where you would see one: "A flat fee cannot be linked to a percentage rate. It stays in this list by design, not because anything is wrong."
Older orders whose rate row was removed. If a WooCommerce order refers to a tax rate that no longer exists in your store, the tax on that order is still charged and reported as an amount.
A short setup checklist
- Set your tax rates in WooCommerce → Settings → Tax the way your accounting needs them. That is the source of truth for what your customers pay.
- Create the same rates on your Clover account at exactly the same percentage for the ones you want named in Clover reporting.
- Link them in WooCommerce → Settings → Payments → WeeConnectPay → Taxes → Rate linking. Linking your tax rates to Clover walks through it.
- Pick a reporting choice in the same tab, under Tax forwarding mode. How tax reporting to Clover works compares the three choices.
- Check the Rate coverage block on your WeeConnectPay dashboard Taxes page to see anything still worth linking.
If your amounts themselves look wrong
That is a WooCommerce tax configuration question rather than a reporting one, because WeeConnectPay charges and reports what WooCommerce calculated. Start from your rates, classes, and priorities under WooCommerce → Settings → Tax, and from whether prices are entered with or without tax.
